Quick Answer
For most travellers, Dorsett Gold Coast is the best-value pick, JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort & Spa is the best choice for a full resort experience, and QT Gold Coast is the strongest option for style, couples and a lively Surfers Paradise feel. The right choice depends less on star rating and more on what you want to spend your time doing once you check in.

Recent Expedia examples also show why you should compare live dates rather than rely on a fixed “from” price. Dorsett was listed at AU$248 for 4–5 November 2026, QT at AU$262 for 1–2 November 2026, and JW Marriott at AU$359 for 26–27 October 2026. These are different stay dates, for one-night searches, so they are useful only as rough positioning — not a direct same-date price comparison. Prices vary by date, room type and booking conditions.
Dorsett Gold Coast: Best for Value

Dorsett is the easiest recommendation for travellers who want a visually impressive hotel without automatically moving into the highest luxury price bracket.
Its biggest advantage is Isoletto Pool Club. Dorsett says the Level 6 pool has a 12-metre viewing wall overlooking Broadbeach, wet lounges, cabanas and a poolside food-and-drink area. That gives the hotel a strong “holiday” feeling even though it sits in a busy entertainment precinct.
The other feature worth knowing about is the Executive Lounge on Level 19. Executive guests get access to elevated Broadbeach views, with breakfast and evening drinks/canapés listed by the hotel. That can make an upgrade more meaningful than simply paying for a slightly larger room.
Dorsett also sits in Broadbeach as part of The Star Gold Coast precinct. For travellers who plan to spend time around Broadbeach dining, Pacific Fair, the convention centre and the beach, that location can be more convenient than staying farther north in Surfers Paradise.
Choose Dorsett if:
- you want the lowest-cost option of these three most of the time;
- the pool is a major part of your hotel decision;
- you prefer Broadbeach to central Surfers Paradise;
- you want a short couples trip without paying full resort pricing.
The trade-off is simple: Dorsett does not offer the same self-contained resort experience as JW Marriott. If your plan is to spend most of the day inside the hotel complex, JW Marriott has significantly more on-property recreation.
JW Marriott Gold Coast: Best Resort Experience
*Photos: JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort & Spa official website.*
JW Marriott is the clear winner if the hotel itself is meant to be one of the main attractions of the trip.
The centrepiece is its tropical saltwater lagoon, which Marriott describes as having white sandy edges, waterfalls and tropical fish. The property also lists a freshwater pool, lazy river, water slide, Jacuzzis and private cabanas.
That changes the value calculation. You are not only comparing bedrooms. You are comparing how much of a holiday can happen without leaving the resort.
For families, this is the strongest choice of the three. Marriott specifically positions the pool experience for multi-generational travellers and also offers family activities. For couples, the lagoon, Spa by JW and cabanas can still make the property appealing, but the overall feel is more resort-oriented than intimate boutique escape.
Expedia’s recent listing showed a 9.2/10 guest score from about 1,000 reviews, slightly ahead of the other two hotels at the time checked.
Choose JW Marriott if:
- the pool and resort facilities matter more than getting the lowest room price;
- you are travelling with children;
- you want a hotel where you can spend a full day without needing to leave;
- you are willing to pay more for a more complete resort experience.
The biggest drawback is price. Even when rates move around, JW Marriott commonly sits above Dorsett and QT in the examples we checked. If you are going to be outside sightseeing all day, you may not get enough use from the extra facilities to justify the difference.
QT Gold Coast: Best for Couples, Friends and Style

*Photos: QT Gold Coast official website.*
QT sits in a different lane. It is less about “maximum resort facilities” and more about atmosphere.
The Spring is QT Gold Coast’s poolside precinct, with a strong Palm Springs-style design, striped umbrellas, cabanas and a pool bar/restaurant. QT currently lists The Spring as open from 10am to 4pm daily, weather dependent.
That visual identity is important. If you want a hotel that looks distinctive in photos, feels social and works well for a couples or friends trip, QT is an easy shortlist.
The Surfers Paradise location also suits travellers who expect to go out rather than stay within the hotel all day. You get the energy of the main tourist district, while still having a strong pool area to return to.
Expedia showed a 9.0/10 guest score from roughly 1,005 reviews when checked.
Choose QT if:
- you care about design and atmosphere;
- you are travelling as a couple or with friends;
- you want to stay in Surfers Paradise;
- you want a lively pool scene rather than a family-focused lagoon resort.
For families who want waterslides, lagoon swimming and a larger recreation setup, JW Marriott is the stronger fit. For travellers mainly focused on price-to-experience value, Dorsett is usually the better place to start comparing.
Pool Comparison: Which One Wins?
If the pool decides the booking, each hotel wins for a different reason.
Dorsett has the best value-to-visual-impact ratio. Isoletto looks premium, has a distinctive viewing wall and works especially well for couples or a short escape.
JW Marriott has the strongest pool complex overall. The saltwater lagoon, freshwater pool, lazy river, water slide and cabanas make it the clear choice for travellers who want a resort day built into the stay.
QT wins for style. The Spring is smaller in concept than JW Marriott’s resort complex, but its striped design, cabanas and social feel give it a distinctive personality.
Our pool winner for pure experience: JW Marriott.
Our pool winner for value: Dorsett.
Location: Broadbeach or Surfers Paradise?
This may be the most important choice after price.
Dorsett is in Broadbeach, a good fit if you want a slightly more relaxed base with easy access to dining, shopping and the beach.
JW Marriott and QT are both in Surfers Paradise, but they serve different trips. JW Marriott works when you want a resort base; QT works when you want to be closer to the social energy and nightlife style associated with Surfers Paradise.
There is no universal location winner. Choose the neighbourhood that matches the trip rather than picking by hotel stars alone.
Couples: Dorsett vs QT
For a couples trip, the decision is close.
Pick Dorsett if you want a polished pool, Broadbeach location and stronger value.
Pick QT if you want a more playful, design-led hotel and expect to spend more time around Surfers Paradise.
For a honeymoon-style splurge where the hotel experience matters as much as the destination, JW Marriott becomes more compelling — especially if you plan to use the spa, cabanas and lagoon.
Families: JW Marriott Is the Easy Pick
Among these three, JW Marriott has the clearest family advantage.
The combination of lagoon, freshwater pool, lazy river, water slide and family programming makes the higher nightly rate easier to justify when several people will actually use those facilities.
Dorsett can still work for families who prefer Broadbeach and want to spend more of the trip outside the hotel. QT is better suited to travellers prioritising style and atmosphere over a large family recreation setup.
Which Hotel Gives the Best Value?
Value is not simply the cheapest rate.
If Dorsett is substantially cheaper on your dates, it is difficult to beat because you still get a strong pool experience and a desirable Broadbeach base.
If JW Marriott is only modestly more expensive on your exact dates — particularly for a family — the extra pool facilities may justify the jump.
QT makes sense when its price sits near Dorsett and you specifically prefer Surfers Paradise and its design-led atmosphere.
The practical rule: compare all three on the same dates before booking. Gold Coast hotel prices can move sharply with weekends, school holidays, events and room availability.
What Should You Book?
Choose Dorsett Gold Coast if you want the best balance of price, pool and location.
Choose JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort & Spa if you want the hotel itself to feel like a major part of the holiday.
Choose QT Gold Coast if you want style, couples/friends energy and a Surfers Paradise base.
For our overall recommendation to the widest range of travellers, Dorsett Gold Coast takes the value win. JW Marriott is the upgrade pick; QT is the style pick.
Bottom Line
There is no bad choice here, but there is a wrong choice for the wrong trip.
Dorsett is the sensible starting point for value. JW Marriott is worth considering when you will genuinely use its resort facilities. QT is the one to pick when atmosphere and Surfers Paradise energy matter more than having the biggest pool complex.
Before booking, compare the same dates, room conditions and cancellation terms. Check today’s price, because Gold Coast rates can change quickly.
